Frequently Asked Questions

Are you a registered counsellor?

Yes. I hold a Master of Counselling and am a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Level 2. I abide by the ACA Code of Ethics in all aspects of my practice.

How do I know if The Hearth Space is right for me?

The Hearth Space is a space for women, or those who identify as female, who are navigating change, grief, transition or identity shift, and who are ready to explore what healing might look like for their whole self. If you are unsure whether we are the right fit, I offer a complimentary 10-minute connection call where you can ask questions and get a feel for how I work.

Do you only see women?

My focus areas and training lend themselves particularly well to working with women, and the majority of my clients are women navigating change, transition and identity shift.

That said, I do occasionally see male clients where there is a good fit. If you are unsure whether my approach is right for you, a complimentary connection call is the best place to start.

Do I need a referral or a Mental Health Care Plan?

No. The Hearth Space operates as a private practice and does not require a GP referral or Mental Health Care Plan. Sessions are self-funded and do not attract a Medicare rebate.

What is the difference between a counsellor and a psychologist?

Both counsellors and psychologists are trained to support mental health and wellbeing, and there is significant overlap in the work they do. The key differences lie in training pathway, registration body and Medicare access.

Counsellors complete university-level training in counselling, from Bachelor to Master's degree level, and are registered with a professional body such as the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). Counselling sessions are self-funded and do not attract a Medicare rebate.

Psychologists complete a university degree in Psychology and are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). They can access Medicare rebates through a Mental Health Care Plan from a GP, and their training allows them to diagnose mental health conditions.

In practice, many clients find that counselling offers the depth, warmth and flexibility they are looking for , particularly when navigating life transitions, identity shift, grief or personal growth rather than a focus on clinical diagnosis.

If you are unsure which pathway is right for you, a complimentary connection call is a gentle place to start.

What happens in a first counselling session?

Your first session is simply a chance to meet, to talk about what has brought you here, and to begin to get a feel for working together. There is no pressure to share more than you are ready to. We go at your pace from the very beginning.

How long are sessions and what do they cost?

Individual counselling and walk and talk therapy sessions are 60 minutes at $150 per session. A complimentary 10-minute connection call is available before your first appointment.

How do online sessions work?

Online sessions are held via a secure video platform. All you need is a quiet, private space and a reliable internet connection. Sessions are available Australia-wide.

What is walk and talk counselling?

Walk and talk counselling is a nature-based alternative to the traditional counselling room. Rather than sitting face to face, we walk side by side in a natural outdoor setting in the greater Brisbane area. Many clients find that movement helps them open up more freely. Walk and talk sessions include a brief informed consent conversation about confidentiality considerations in outdoor settings, such as time of day and weather.

Do you offer sessions in consultation rooms?

Yes, you can see me in-person, in a consultation room. Please contact me directly to discuss the options.

What is the difference between counselling and wellness sessions?

Counselling is a professional therapeutic service focused on your mental and emotional wellbeing. It is offered by a qualified, registered practitioner and follows ethical and professional guidelines set by the Australian Counselling Association. Wellness sessions, including Women’s Circles, Kundalini meditation and Reiki, work alongside counselling to support your whole self. You may choose one pathway, or weave them together. The choice is entirely yours.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for a minimum of 24 hours-notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a cancellation fee. Full details are outlined in the client agreement provided before your first session.
